Smoothie Experiments

So, I recently bought a "Shake & Take" single-serve blender online and thought why not try something different to shake and blend! I went to the grocery store and find some things I like for a healthy smoothie. I got some bananas, strawberries, celery stalks, and yogurt. I find it weird to add celery to the mix but a friend mentioned you would barely taste it. I also read somewhere that it is good to add some veggies into your fruit smoothie to add minerals and nourishment that you need.

So here's what I have for ingredients.
1 Medium Banana
4 Large Strawberries
1 Celery Stalk
6 Cucumber Slices
Strawberry Yogurt
6 Ice Cubes

Just cut them all up and put in the blender. Shake until everything is nice and smooth. Super easy!

And it's true! I can barely taste the cucumber and celery. So if you are not fond of these vegetables,  this is a great way to add them to your diet. =) I think I will try mango and ginger combo next time. ;)

DIY Tangle Free Charger & Earphones Protector

Here's an idea on how to protect and keep your chargers tangle free in a colorful way. =)

What you will need :

Yarn (of your chosen color/s)
Corchet needle
Charger and/or Earphones

Procedure:

1. Take your yarn and loop it around your earphone or charger cord. Make a knot.

2. From there, create a series of slip knots wrapping each one around the cord of your charger/earphones.

3. Continue until you reach the other end. I would usually go with multi-colored yarn so I don't have to change yarns. But if I have to, I usually tuck the ends under as I go for a cleaner look. When you reach the end,  do one last slip knot and cut the yarn leaving 2-3 inches of loose yarn. Then take your needle and use it to tuck it under the previous loops. Cut the excess yarn and you're done. =)

When doing this on your earphones,  you can continue the slip knots up to the end of one of the ear buds. You can start where you left off to continue with the other bud.

My earphones have some sort of rubber where the cords of the two ear buds meet so I stopped there and started from the other end. I also made this one differently. I used a method similar to those you can see when making friendship bracelets!

Saving a Pair of Slip Ons

I have a favorite pair of Ked's slip on in nude color. I pair it with everything. Last week I saw that there are some yellow discoloration that I can't remove with washing.  So I decided I need to do something to revive it.

I did a very simple DIY design for my slip ons that doesn't need any drawing ability. You can finish it in half an hour or so depending on how fast you can paint it.

Here's the materials you'll need.

How I did it:

Continue to build up the design until you are happy with how it looks. Here is the finished pair. It looks quite cool, isn't it? =)

Note: This post is entirely done with Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 :)

Crepe Samurai ala Cafe Juanita

Cafe Juanita at Burgos Circle, to me, is a go-to place when I want (or sometimes,  need) some feel-good comfort food. The ambiance is also nice with a boho gypsy-ish style.

Today I thought,  I try to create my own crepe samurai. Here's s photo I took the last time we were there.

Crepe Samurai is the one in the small  bowl in the middle

Here are the ingredients I used:

The whipping cream isn't cold when I took this photo so it looks quite runny here
How to assemble:
Prepare what you need. I used a glass pan so that I can torch it later without worrying about the container.
Layer your crepe on the pan with half of it hanging out. You can use a knife to cut the corners if needed.
Put your mangoes in.

Fold in the hanging part of your crepe and top with whipped cream. Cover with cling wrap and chill until set.

Sprinkle sugar on top. Be careful in doing this because it is easy to put a lot of sugar in.  I normally spoon the sugar to a sifter so it more even throughout the top. Torch it slightly until the top turns brown. It is best to use white sugar because darker ones tends to burn easily.

Tadaaah, my Crepe Samurai is now ready!  =) Fiance approves! :)

About Me

Hi, I am Gena. I am a office girl who loves food and baking and shoes. And now struggling to lose weight towards a healthier lifestyle and for my upcoming wedding with the love of my life whom I met in college.

I am putting up this blog to share and chronicle milestones and discoveries. And by doing so, I hope I can give you ideas with stuff that interests you when you can find nothing specific on the internet.

I also love to create things so you will be seeing a lot of DIY posts here. Nails, hair, wedding stuff, anything worth sharing :) I like to braid and my friends say I'm pretty good at it so if you want to learn a certain kind of braid, let me know so I can post here. I am quite kuripot so I really like doing things by myself rather than paying to have them made (especially if I can do it better *wink*).

I am definitely a dog person! we have 12 dogs at home. Most of them are Shih Tzus. I am quite biased to this breed as for me, they are the kindest and most malambing of all.

I love all things beautiful (and all things delicious, haha!) I do hope you enjoy my posts and may they help inspire you just as much as they inspire me :)

Raket!

In the Philippines, anything you do for extra source of income is called "raket". For me, I am using my love for baking as a raket. I bake goods that I can sell for a profit.  This week I am making cream puffs. =)

While it is important to have a regular job that will provide you with a steady income, it is good to also have a source of extra income. It is up to you whether you want to use it for your expenses or save it for  your future.

The best raket you can have is the one that you enjoy the most as it is more of a hobby rather than additional "work". Isn't it nice to earn not just pleasure but real money doing something you love?

Here are some photos I took while baking =)

Camouflage Nails

Whenever I want to try something new, I always consult my pal Google who knows everything. Lately, hubby-to-be and I were very much into camouflage color scheme. So, I decided to do camouflage colored nails. I wasn't sure how to so I consulted the ever reliable Google. To my dismay, there isn't one that would show me how. So I thought I'd make my own camouflage nails tutorial.

And here it goes..

What you'll need

1. Dark  green nail polish*
2. Lighter green polish
3. Yellow polish*
4. Black polish*
5. Clear top coat
5. Small brush or toothpick or nail art polish in the colors with *

You can also have real camo color scheme (brown, light brown, dark green, and black) but these are what's available to me at the moment and I like how the yellow brightens it up.

First, I coated my nails with the lighter shade of green. You can also apply your favorite base coat beforehand.

Next, I took my yellow nail art polish to make a few irregular shaped blots on my nails. If you have a regular polish, you can also use a small brush or a toothpick.

Do the same for the dark green polish...

And the black polish..

Place the random blots in a way that they complement the whole look.

If some blots became too thick, let it dry a little bit before putting a top coat to avoid smudging your design.

Voila! You now have your camo nails! ;-)

Sometimes, I like to do just one or two nails on each hand to let the design pop out more or so it will not look too busy.

High Buns for Busy Days

On hectic days, a handy dandy hair scrunchy is a good way to keep your hair tamed and away from your face as you work. A simple high bun is what I would usually do. But that's a little boring. If you have a few minutes to make it a little bit more exciting, here are some ideas that might inspire you.

High doughnut bun with braids from different directions

Upside down braid with high bun (braids around the bun)
Upside down braid with high bun
Braided bangs and doughnut bun

High bun with side braids
Leave a comment to let me know if you want me to create a tutorial for these hair styles ;)
